Riko, who has been devoted to calligraphy since she was a child, was able to study under Tadao Tokiwa, a master of the Tokiwa school, who she respects, thanks to her desperate begging. However, her son, Hideo, is the only one who instructs her, and Tadao doesn’t interfere at all. Riko perseveres and is finally allowed to practice by Tadao. When I entered the room with anticipation and nervousness, I was suddenly ordered to take off my kimono, saying, “Take off everything and go straight to the book.”
